September 24, 1938 - September 28, 2021
Sondra Rose Gannon Sharpe, age 83, died on September 28, 2021, at home with her family in Jacksonville, Florida. Sondra is survived by her children, John and Christina; her grandsons, Alec, Nicholas and Ethan; her brother Dennis Gannon of Rochester, MN.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Sharpe, of Rochester, NY her sister, Virginia (Jenny), and her brother William (Bill) of Zanesville, OH. Sondra was born on September 24, 1938, in Zanesville, OH to parents John (Jack) Gannon and Alice Marie Williamson. She spent 20 years teaching art, music and middle school curriculum at St. Matthew’s, Christ the King, and St. Paul’s Riverside Catholic schools in the St. Augustine Diocese. During this time, she displayed her enormous creative skills and supported her church and school by directing folk groups, choirs, variety shows and art festivals. Following, Sondra worked 30 years as a Registered Nurse in Emergency, Critical, and Pediatric care, Case Management and Home Health. Her life work was doing, giving, and caring. Her home was always warm and welcoming, and she never lacked a bright smile, a sympathetic ear, or the perfect scarf and brooch. Sondra loved her family dearly and spoke of her children and grandsons with great pride. She enjoyed coffee chats with family and friends among her garden, cardinals, and blue jays. Though the Fall season was her favorite, you always knew the holiday or season from a wreath placed on her door. She routinely shared the pleasures in working at the Hospice thrift store, summertime pool antics, attending track meets, listening to her favorite music like, Abba, The Eagles, Willie Nelson, John Denver and Neil Diamond. Gentle on my Mind by Glen Campbell was top of her play list. Sondra had numerous hobbies from swimming, bible studies, puzzles to reading. Poetry was her favorite as she habitually shared verses from A Child’s Garden of Verses and Desiderata. Her family and friends will miss her hugs, laughter, compassion, inspiration and fighting spirit. On any given day we would hear her say “Run YOUR race!”, “Be the Light.”, “This too shall pass.”, “Hi Honey!”, and the inevitable text “Are you here yet?”. A funeral mass will be held at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32217, on October 29th at 10am with a celebration reception to follow. Sondra’s favorite time of year was the Fall, so she would encourage you to wear fall colors. All whose lives Sondra touched are invited to attend and celebrate her life. The family looks forward to hearing your memories and the impacts she made. The family would like to thank her oldest nephew, Christopher Gannon, for all the love, patience and support he showed her and her family during her decline in health. He filled her heart with joy and laughter. Instead of flowers, Sondra would hope you will read Desiderata, listen to Gentle on my Mind and do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a stranger in need.
