Michael Evans Monroe

January 23, 1953 - February 23, 2021

MONROE - Michael Evans Monroe left this earth and entered the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 23, 2021 at the age of 68 in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Mike retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a sergeant after nearly 40 years of service. He served in Patrol, Traffic, Investigations, Homeland Security, and as Bomb Squad Commander. Comrades describe him as bullet proof, a mentor, a true leader, and a great man. During his time as an Officer, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in a church parking lot while working the midnight shift. If you knew “Monroe” you knew his stand on many things. He was always honest, but the most faithful friend one could have. “Uncle Mike”, his other nickname, was an avid hunter all his life, a competitive archer, and a recreational long range rifle marksman. He lived life to the fullest as he worked on cars, rode motorcycles, competed in body building, and built his own home - because he could do anything! He is preceded in death by his father, Connie Evans Monroe, and his sister, Constance Lynn Monroe. He is survived by his devoted mother, Evelyn Monroe; loving wife of 39 years, Terry Lynn Monroe; children, Joni Monroe Varnes (Allan) and Aron Monroe Riley (Scott); sister, Sandy Monroe Smith (Bobby); grandchildren Rachael Varnes Hite (Bradley), Kyle Varnes, Rebecca Varnes, Foster Riley, and Jane Alice Riley; and many family members and friends. A visitation will be held Monday, March 1st from 6-9 PM with a memorial service to follow on Tuesday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM. Both will be held at Bible Believer’s Baptist Church, 3857 Hartley Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257. *masks required. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s name to Bible Believer’s Baptist Church.
