Martha Lee Jammes

February 6, 1939 - April 22, 2022

Martha Lee Martin Jammes was born on February 6, 1939 in Damascus, Virginia as one of seven children to William (Bill) and Sophia Roe Martin. She peaceably left this earth in Jacksonville, Florida on April 22, 2022 with her loving husband, J. Dennis Jammes at her side. Martha's life reflected her commitment to Jesus Christ and her devotion to her husband, Dennis of 61 years, Dennis and Martha were married December 31, 1960, and she became a Christian when baptized for the remission of her sins in the summer of 1964. As one of the original members of the South Jacksonville Church of Christ, Martha lived as an exemplary pattern of selfless servitude. Graduating from the Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia. Martha began her sixty-plus year nursing career working as a registered nurse at Baptist Medical Center (Jacksonville, Florida), starting October 17, 1960 and retiring in 2000 as an Assistant Director of Nursing. She also worked at the Mayo Clinic and ended her career at the Opis Riverwood Center, in Jacksonville. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, W. Thomas (Tommy) Martin, Jr. and Lemuel (Duck) Martin, sister, Gary Louise Wilson. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, her brother Charles (Charlie) Martin (wife, Ruth), sister, Kathleen Schumacher (husband, Larry), Brother Bobby Martin (wife, Jane) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She loved spending time with her family, volunteering as a 4-H Club camp nurse, fishing, camping, and traveling with Dennis in their RV to Bluegrass festivals. Although her RV travels stretched from the Appalachian Mountains to Key West, her favorite spot was St, George Island, Florida. Martha was a loving and caring Christian, devoted wife, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend, always thinking of others first. A Memorial Service for Martha Jammes will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends thirty minutes before the Memorial Service. A short interment service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32218.
