Madeline Henderson

June 22, 1926 - January 2, 2021

Madeline Henderson Sunrise: June 22, 1926 Sunset: January 2, 2021 Madeline Koonce Henderson, 94, passed away on January 2, 2021, surrounded by family. Born on June 22, 1926, to the Late Rufus and Dora Koonce, Madeline was the 5th of 7 children. Madeline accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Sandusky Ohio. The late Rev. Curtis A. Brown presided. She graduated from Sandusky High School. Madeline would receive additional education and training in the Dietary Field and worked at local hospitals providing dietary aid. During World War II, Madeline also worked for Philco Ford Electronics. On Feb 28, 1948, she married the late Phillip H. Henderson. Of this union, four children were born, Phyllis, Michelle (deceased), Raphael, and Vernita. The two raised their family in Sandusky, Ohio, Detroit, and later Highland Park, Michigan. Following the war, Madeline assumed the role of homemaker and provided a warm, loving environment for her family. She enjoyed baking new desserts, celebrating holidays, and encouraging her children's musical development. Madeline warmed the hearts of everyone she came in contact with and She was a ray of sunshine who loved to be on the go. She was an active member of Russell Street Baptist Church, Detroit. The late Rev. Stephen C. Campbell presided and she served as Youth Sunday School Teacher. Later in life, Madeline relocated to Orange Park, Florida. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rufus and Dora Koonce: husband, Phillip H. Henderson; daughter, Michelle (Henderson) Dickerson; brothers Robert Koonce, Paul Koonce, and Lee Koonce; and sisters Pearline (Koonce) Hinton, Christine (Koonce) Young, and Pauline (Koonce) Shaw. Madeline Koonce Henderson leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Phyllis(Gary) Rhodes, Raphael Henderson, and Vernita (Ricardo) Matthews; nine grandchildren, Pierre Jackson, Ahmed Jackson, Robert Henderson Dickerson, Joseph Dickerson, Charise (Dickerson) Merrel, Anthony Dickerson, Tanisha Dickerson, Tianna (Dickerson) Merrel, and Raphael D. Henderson; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. Memorial service will be held at Abundant Joy Christian Fellowship 799 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL on Saturday 16th of January 2021 at 11:00 am.
