George Oliver Smith

June 4, 1940 - January 28, 2022

George O. Smith, 81, passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the owner and operator of O.E. Smith’s Sons, a well-drilling and septic system company that served customers across Northeast Florida. George was also the longest living licensed well driller in the state of Florida. He had recently retired in 2020 after more than 55 years in business. He is survived by his sister Alice and brother Albert (Pat); his three daughters Helena (Fred), Tracy (Mike) and Mendy (Marcus); his six grandchildren Brandy (Brian), Ashley, Davie (Alexis), Kandis (William), Quinlynn (Jordan), and Shiloh; his great granddaughters Reagan and Sylvie; and Mark Patterson who was like a son to George. George is proceeded in death by Sylvia Smith, his beloved wife of 52 years. He was a member of Taylor Church in Sanderson, Florida and his faith, including his love of the Lord Jesus Christ, was always very important to him. Please join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Arrangements are being made by the Corey-Kerwin Funeral Home at the 1426 Rowe Avenue location. With the ongoing pandemic, the family asks that all attendees wear masks and avoid close personal interactions - such as hugging or handshakes- to further protect one another from this virus. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Taylor Church, 26389 County Road 250, Sanderson, FL, 32087.
