Ernest Charles Owens Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ernest Charles Owens passed away on November 16, 2020. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on June 8, 1952, to Henry Owens and Louise Plyler Owens. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Melody Odgen Owens; children, Eric Owens and Chris Owens; brothers James (Buddy) Owens and Billy Owens. Survivors include his sisters Carolyn Jones and Nancy (George) Williams; brothers Harry ( Joyce) Owens and Larry ( Stacy ) Owens and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was proud of all his family and everyone knew it as he was quick to share. Ernie was a passionate, fun-loving, and caring soul. He could hold his own with people from all walks of life. People were quickly at ease with him due to his ability to share the wisdom he gained over his experiences in life. Many of these were sure to bring a smile or laugh to you as he lived a life full of adventure. The day he was born his parents were out in the river from Shady Rest fish camp when labor contractions started, and they had to rush in to welcome him. He was literally almost born in the river. As a child, he earned the name of “Toad” from his Papa Plyler and it stayed with him. Throughout his life, he was well known not only as a commercial fisherman but one you surely could not out fish. He could always catch something even without the use of any fancy or expensive boats or tackle. Many have learned a thing or two about river life just watching Ernie do what came so naturally to him. He had a great talent for oystering and many would seek him out to harvest a bushel or two for them. They were surely to be some of the best. Ernie would be quick to say he lived a full life. While the last several years were difficult, they did not take away the smile from his face or the warmth in his heart. He gained strength from the love that surrounded him. His faith in the Lord reassured him of his eternal life and his reunion with all the loved ones who had gone on before him. His family takes comfort in knowing Ernie’s public declaration of faith by baptism ensures his rest in his eternal home. May he rest in eternal peace. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 11 am at Ferreira Memorial Cemetery.
