Ms. Carolyn Sue Smith
December 15, 1945 - February 9, 2022
Carolyn Sue Smith, age 76 passed away on February 9, 2022. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 15, 1945. She is the beloved daughter of Clarence W. (Winton) and Berna P. Smith. Carolyn was born with Cerebral Palsy and had challenges all her life. Her parents Winton and Berna went above and beyond to love and support Carolyn all their lives. Carolyn moved into the Amelia Island Care Center back in May of 1976 and began a new life surrounded by amazing caregivers. They were real heroes and took care of Carolyn throughout the years. She also made some great friendships with her fellow residents. Later in 2009 Carolyn moved up in the world and landed in one of the popular new “Cluster Homes” under the ownership of Care Centers of Nassau. These rooms and common areas were very nice for activities and meeting with others. Her room was decorated with family pictures, artwork, framed awards, and some colorful Converse sneakers. Carolyn’s parents instilled a strong faith in her and she cherished her Bible reading time. Some of her other activities included listening to her music, writing to others as a faithful pen pal, and dressing up in her own style. Everyone knew Carolyn, and she was quite popular. Often other residents would make their way down the hallway see what she was up to. As Carolyn aged, her sense of humor came through. She demanded that people call her “Old Lady.” I thought this was funny until she replied back to me, Yeah, “Old Man.” We included a verse about love, because Carolyn was truly loved. We certainly miss her smiling face. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to United Cerebral Palsy.
