Dr. William M. Hutchinson, Sr.

U.S. Veteran

HUTCHINSON--- On June 4, 2012, Dr. William Mostyn Hutchinson, Sr., MD passed away to Heaven after a short illness. He was 89 years old and was born in Trenton, NJ at Hutchinson’s Mill, the son of Stanley and Mae Hutchinson. Dr. Hutchinson attended the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University and graduated from the Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He began practice as LTJG William Hutchinson, MD in the US Navy Reserve. LTJG Hutchinson, MD served in the US Navy in both World War II and the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He began a Family Medical Practice in Trenton, NJ. After 9 years, he moved to Jacksonville and trained in Urology at St. Vincents Hospital. He joined the McIver Urological Clinic as the 4th physician partner. Dr. Hutchinson started the Department of Pediatric Urology at Baptist Hospital and was section chief at Jacksonville Children’s Hospital. He was a member of the Society for Pediatric Urology and the Florida Medical Association, Chief of the Urology Service at Baptist Hospital and the 22nd President of Baptist’s Medical Staff in 1976. While practicing, Dr. Hutchinson received numerous awards of appreciation from McIver Clinic, Baptist Hospital and others. He was a member of Gardenview Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Shrine. His surviving family includes: his wife, Ruby Swindell-Hutchinson; his children, Kathleen Hutchinson and William M. Hutchinson, Jr., his grandchildren, Elizabeth Hutchinson (Joseph) Crosby and Jeff (Katie) Hutchinson; step son, Raymond (Debbie) Tyler as well as a niece, Beverly Clay, and a nephew, Robert Padelford. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 10 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave. Funeral services, with Pastor Rodney Echols, will be held Monday, June 11 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Masonic Rites to follow. Interment will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors.
